Started with a capsule collection in 2013 in Toronto by designer Catherine Addai, Kaela Kay has grown into a brand with customers represented worldwide. Rooted in hard work, creativity, respect, innovative continuity, and family (Kaela Kay is named after Catherine Addai’s daughter Kaela), Kaela Kay has grown into a brand.
Our mission is to create clothing that make women feel beautiful, bold and empowered by offering styles, silhouettes and colors that will make women center of attention. Kaela Kay is designed for women who love the artistic representation of themselves in the way they dress – and Catherine Addai endeavors to make all women know their style. The designs are classy, feminine, and elegant and the printed fabrics are bold, graphic and expressive.
Through the bright colors, print combinations, modern styles and classy silhouettes, Kaela Kay wants women to elevate their collective agenda by revealing their fabulous style – in all shapes and sizes; for this reason Kaela Kay stocks up to size US22 and will custom design for any fabulous size.
All of KAELA KAY clothing is handmade in Canada by local seamstresses. In doing so, cultivating economic success and supporting other women in business. All of the fabrics used in the clothing is 100%. The fabrics are purchased locally – though their origins and history are rooted in Catherine Addai’s native culture in Ghana, West Africa. The prints are sourced from fabric mills in Ghana, West Africa and purchased from local fabric suppliers in the GTA.
Catherine Addai and her work have been recognized by CNN as one of Africa’s top brands to watch, British Vogue, African Fashion Council Canada as the Women’s Wear Designer of the Year as well as being feature in numerous magazines and advertising media across the globe. Often recognized for brand identity and for cultivating a strong brand aesthetic, Catherine Addai strives to make Kaela Kay a global brand for alternative and transformative fashion.
Catherine Addai recently resigned from her corporate career in September-2017 to focus on Kaela Kay full time.
She and her husband Nicholas have 4 children: Mikaela (whom the line is named after), Lex, Janae and Annette.
